A wonderful terre de fer tall comport from the Gien manufacture with green decoration, repaired using the Kintsugi technique, literally repairing with gold.
Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese ceramic restoration technique that consists of joining broken lines with urushi lacquer and then applying gold dust to highlight the joint lines. This technique was devised by Japanese potters in the late 1400s to repair the ceramic cups used during the tea ceremony, Cha no yu.
Compared to traditional restoration, Kintsugi transforms repaired objects into true works of art, accentuating their beauty and turning fragility into strength and perfection. Every piece of pottery repaired with this technique has a unique and unrepeatable interweave of golden lines, caused by the randomness with which the pottery shatters.
Vintage objects may show signs of time, adding to their charm and authenticity
